Dan Dennett speaks about consciousness, and shows some examples at the end of the video that force us to realize an eerie truth: our brains are playing tricks on us.

Not a thing

Before talking about why everything exists, it's important to realize that because something exists, "nothing" is not currently in existence - inside or outside of our universe as an absolute. It can't exist because if it did, things could not exist. Absolute nothing means just that, not-a-thing. So, we can say that while we do have things in existence, we know that nothing does not exist other than as a mere concept.

If nothing existed outside of our universe of space and time, it would still be something - it would be the thing that exists outside of space and time. The absence of something isn't what nothing is because then it becomes a thing, it becomes the absence of something.

I'll tell you about something...

This article will define what "something" is. As mentioned in my introduction, this article may seem a bit silly at first but we will need to refer to it in later articles such as when we define what "nothing" is. But for now, let's stick to defining something...

Introduction to my Theory of Everything!

This will hopefully be the first of a string of articles about why and how I figure the universe exists. It started as a conversation with a brother of mine (the idea, not the universe), a couple friends, and a lot of beer. After three days of mixed ideas and many days of mixed drinks, I found the topic so interesting that I've decided to write these articles in hopes of stirring up some good conversation with strangers over the interwebs.
